Gathering as One Family

From 12 to 15 June, we gathered as a church family for CCMC Camp 2026. Comprising about 240 campers, this camp was a time for us to worship, learn, pray, fellowship, and grow together in our faith in Jesus.

The camp’s theme, “Faith in Jesus, Life Restored” was inspired by CCMC’s 2026 church theme, “Faith in Jesus.” Over the four days, campers were encouraged to reflect deeply on what it means to have faith in Jesus, how this faith may grow in confidence, and how life is restored in Him.

Rev Kenneth Huang, Pastor-in-Charge shares:

“It was my prayer that through the camp, we would learn to live more confidently by faith, and not by sight, and so produce works that will make a real difference in our lives, families, workplaces, schools, neighbourhood, church, and society - all for the Glory of God and the building up of His people at CCMC.”

Opening with Fellowship and Worship

We arrived at the camp venue and enjoyed a warm lunch together, sharing smiles and laughter. This set the tone for the warmth and love our community would continue to show throughout the camp.

Getting to know each other during the ice breaker

The camp kicked off with a warm welcome from Rev Kenneth Huang and the Camp Committee, followed by a Camp Bingo ice-breaker to get everyone mingling.

We then settled into a rousing time of worship, during which the camp theme song “Yet Not I But Through Christ in Me” was introduced.

Devotions from Our Pastors

Each morning, campers were nourished with devotions from our pastors before we began the day’s worship and programme. On Day 2, Rev David Ho led an engaging devotion that encouraged us not to be passive recipients, but to pay closer attention to what God was doing around us.

On Day 3, Rev Rufus Chan reminded us to be still and to focus on God. These morning devotions helped set the tone for each day, grounding us again in God’s presence before camp activities resumed.

Learning about Faith in Jesus

The camp theme was unpacked through four theme talks by Rev Dr Jimmy Tan over the first three days. Each session helped campers reflect on faith in Jesus from a different angle, beginning with the question of life itself.

In the first session, campers considered: what is life? This brought us back to Scripture, to consider how life can be understood in relation to God. As part of our very first spiritual exercise at camp - the first of many, campers were invited to review their lives with God, and to notice the history of God’s grace over the past six months, the past year, or even across their whole lives.

Campers engaging in open discussion during the breakout group sessions

This reflection continued in breakout discussions, where campers shared about their life priorities, their desires, and the criteria they would use to evaluate their life going forward. Often, campers shared their thoughts based on where they were in life. For students, education naturally came to mind. For working adults, career, family, children, and even retirement surfaced as areas of reflection. These conversations reminded us that faith in Jesus speaks into every season of our lives.

The second session turned our attention to the question of who Jesus is. If we are to have faith in Jesus, we must first be reminded of the One in whom our faith rests.

The third session explored faith in Jesus more directly, including what faith looks like in practice. Rev Dr Jimmy encouraged practical spiritual exercises such as prayer, devotional space, gratitude, surrender, and waiting upon God even in seasons where He may appear silent.

The final theme talk brought the camp theme to its natural conclusion: life restored. Campers were challenged to consider what it means to understand life in Christ.

Camp participant Yin Siau reflected on how the theme talks helped her understand our faith more clearly: “The Word preached with clarity - To look back to our graced history, look up to our Lord Jesus, look inward and strengthen with spiritual disciplines, and look outward in appreciation of ourselves and others to restore relationships and life restored. Resting in the perfect assurance of the love of our good Shepherd”.

Jit Soon, who led Group Hope, also shared how the sermons helped his group reflect more deeply on the foundation of their faith: “Pastor Jimmy’s sermons were not only entertaining, but they spoke directly to our hearts, helping us to deepen our understanding of where our faith truly rests: in Jesus”.

Breakout Discussions and Workshops

Through breakout discussions, campers had space to process, discuss and share their views on the lessons from the theme talks, devotions, and faith in general.

On Day 2, campers attended workshops titled “Faith in Our Calling”, “Faith in Our Homes”, “Faith in Tough Times”, and “Faith in Our Schools”, led by various members of our church community. These sessions encouraged reflection on living out faith in Jesus in various aspects of life.

Scenes from the different workshops

Together, the theme talks, breakout discussions, and workshops reminded us that faith formation happens not only through listening, but also through shared reflection with one another.

Leslie Wong, who led a breakout group and also facilitated the “Faith in Our Calling” workshop, reflected on the gift of hearing campers share openly with one another:

“Whenever every single one in my group eventually spoke and shared, about their faith journey and how they are still seeking Jesus, catching glimpses of the diversity of the lives they lived, was a gift”.

Covenant Kids Programme

Running concurrently with the main camp programme was the Covenant Kids (CK) programme, where our children spent time learning about Jesus, and what it means to grow in their own faith in Him.

CK campers building their cardboard briefcases!

One highlight was a craft activity where they created their own cardboard travelling briefcases. The children decorated their briefcases with stickers and reminders such as “agape” (love), pointing them to the love of God and the truth that Jesus is their guide.

It was heartening to see the younger generation of CCMC being nurtured in faith, even as the adults and youths were reflecting on the same camp theme in their own sessions.

The Feel of Community

It was one thing to bond over spiritual food; it was another thing altogether to bond over actual food!

One memorable highlight was the Fruit Fiesta on the first night, where campers gathered over rambutans, mangosteens, and, of course, durians.

After a long day of travelling, settling in, and attending the first theme talk, it was a joyful sight to see campers sharing light-hearted fellowship together over the King of the Fruits.

Community Night and Shared Joy

Community Night on Day 3 was another memorable expression of church family life. The evening began with an exciting barbecue dinner featuring local delights such as satay and char kway teow, alongside grilled meats and other delicious treats. Tables near the entrance were thoughtfully reserved for seniors, reflecting our care for them.

The night continued with the Covenant Kids performance, table games, an aeroplane-throwing game, and a celebration of the June birthday babies. The Covenant Kids performance was especially meaningful. It was lovely to see the next generation of CCMC express their love for God through their performance.

Sock Kiang shared: “I enjoyed seeing the unity of our church family - the chatter and laughter, and the vibrant noise from discussion groups echoing across the room. I loved watching kids and seniors being loved and cared for. I was encouraged by the many volunteers and the camp committee covering every detail across the grounds, and by our prayer warriors lifting us up”.

Closing in Communion and Thanksgiving

Some moments from the last day of camp -

By the final day, after the devotions, theme talks, breakout discussions, and workshops, the words of “Yet Not I But Through Christ in Me” seemed to carry even deeper meaning. The song reminded us that the Christian life is not lived by our own strength, but through Christ in us.

Based on John 10:10 and Psalm 23, the closing message by Ps Kenneth brought us back again to the heart of the camp theme: Faith in Jesus, Life Restored. It was a clear reminder that faith in Jesus, who is the Good Shepherd, is not merely one part of the Christian life - it is the foundation. From this faith flows restoration and the abundant life that only Jesus can give.

Holy Communion was a fitting way to close the camp, remembering the body of Christ given for us and the blood of Christ shed for us. Partaking of Holy Communion together also reminded us that we are to be united together through Christ.

The camper sharings that followed were also significant. Through testimonies of thanksgiving, encouragement, and faith, the church family was able to hear how God had been at work. Some shared what they had learnt during the camp. Others gave thanks for the many people who served behind the scenes. There were also encouraging testimonies of the Gospel being shared with people beyond the church community during the camp itself!

Sent Forth in Faith

Beyond the formal programme, the warmth and love of the church community was found in simple moments: conversations over meals, campers welcoming one another, friends reconnecting, and sharing about life together.

We witnessed how people helped one another, looked out for those who were unwell, considered the needs of seniors, and treated the hotel staff and camp vendors with dignity and respect.

These moments reminded us that church camp is not only about the talks, the schedule, or the activities. It is also about being present with one another, and being a good witness to those around us, as the body of Christ.

Closing Comments

Camp Commandant Terence shared:

“Above all, I will remember that God is the true ‘Director of the show.’ While we may plan and serve, He is the One who leads, provides, and brings about His purposes in His perfect timing.”

Galen Tan, Associate Lay Leader and leader of Group M5, said:

“I thank God for a truly blessed church camp. Serving as the Group Leader of Team M5 was both a privilege and an encouragement. It was wonderful to see God at work through the sharing, fellowship, worship, and prayers within the group. I leave camp with a deeper appreciation of God's faithfulness and the joy of growing together as one family in Christ. All Glory to Him!”

LCEC Chairperson Chia Choon Hoong reflected:

“I deeply felt God’s hand gently nudging and guiding the planning, preparation and delivery of the camp by the committee and also overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and support of all the participants. It’s always a joy to see so many of us coming together to worship and celebrate our faith, bonding over meals and games, and creating new connections and ideas to deepen our Christian walk.”

He added that his hope after camp is for us to: “Trust and obey, and follow the lead of our Good Shepherd”.

Rev David Ho, who provided pastoral oversight to the planning of Church Camp 2026, said:

“There is a place for everyone in the body of Christ, each with their own unique gifts. When we bring what little we have, our five loaves and two fishes, we can trust that the Lord will do far more with them than we ever could on our own.

May we continue to grow deeper together as God's family, into all that the Lord has in store for us here at CCMC”.

We pray that this camp would not just be a fond memory, but that what God had stirred in us would continue to bear fruit in our daily lives. May we all be centred on Jesus, and continue to grow in confident faith in Him.

“I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

- John 10:10b
