Earlier in July 2025, the Men’s Fellowship group convened on a Thursday evening at a popular restaurant, Penang Place, to listen to its founder Paul Ooi’s stirring account of his entrepreneurial journey.

Paul Ooi’s testimony of how he started Penang Place’s first outlet was not merely a business story - it was a powerful reminder of how God leads, provides, and sustains those who fully place their trust in Him. Paul did not begin with perfect plans or abundant resources, but with a heart surrendered to the Lord. He leaned not on human wisdom, but on God’s prompting, believing that the One who called him would also equip him. The restaurant was not just a business venture—it was a step of obedience in faith.

What deeply moved me was how Paul consistently acknowledged God's hand in every area of his life - not just in business, but in his family. He shared with humility and joy how one of his daughters responded to God's call to full-time missions in Ghana. It was clear that their household was one where Christ was honoured, and where children were raised to discern and follow God's voice. His family’s obedience to God is a reflection of the fruit of a home built on prayer, love, and trust in the Lord.

In his business, Paul continued to trust in the Lord through both opportunities and challenges. He spoke about how prayer was central to every decision and how he sought to honour God in his dealings—with staff, customers, and partners. His story reminded me that all work is sacred when done unto the Lord. Paul saw his restaurant not just as a means of income, but as a platform to reflect Christ’s excellence, integrity, and generosity.

The greatest lesson I took away is that when we surrender every part of our lives—our families, careers, and dreams - God takes what we offer and multiplies it for His glory. Paul’s journey reminded me that faith is not passive; it is active trust in the goodness and faithfulness of our Heavenly Father. It is about yielding every area of life to His Lordship and watching Him work all things for good.

One verse that encapsulates Paul’s life is taken from Matthew 6:33:

"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness,

and all these things will be added to you.”

Paul’s story is a beautiful witness of what happens when a man seeks God first—not only did God provide, but He also used his life to bless others and glorify His name.

To God Be The Glory!
