By CCMC’s Outreach & Social Concerns Ministry
September 2025 marked the completion of the fifth run of Gift of Love, an initiative in partnership with Sembawang Family Service Centre (SFSC). Through this programme, CCMC members have had the opportunity to serve families in need within the Sembawang community, offering care and support in purposeful ways.
To commemorate this milestone, the Outreach & Social Concerns Ministry invited past participants to share glimpses of their six-month journey. We are grateful to present selected excerpts from two volunteer reflections, highlighting the experiences and lessons gained along the way.
BTB-2 Growth Group
Participating in Gift of Love was a faith-in-action journey for our Growth Group. We came together not just to serve, but to bond, love, and grow in faith. We served as both donors and befrienders—sharing God’s love through acts of generosity while cultivating genuine friendships and nurturing spiritual connections.

Scripture was the guiding light of our decision to serve families with special needs. It reminded us that caring for the vulnerable lies at the heart of our Christian calling, and that every individual is worthy of respect, opportunity, and love—not as an act of charity, but as a recognition of their God-given dignity.
Every alternate Sunday, we gathered to shop for groceries based on the family’s requests, delivered them together, and spent time engaging in conversation, especially with the children. These visits revealed the family’s unique challenges and deepened our empathy. We listened first, then we ensured our support was practical—healthy food, tuition help, and even flu vaccination suggestions—and compassionate, offering encouragement and emotional presence.
We witnessed the children’s growth: one daughter began exercising and felt healthier; another aspired to study dental health, and we encouraged her to gain work experience and reapply after her initial application was turned down. Their brother dreamed of breaking the poverty cycle through skilled work, and we guided him toward engineering-related training.

Gift of Love is more than grocery delivery—it’s a message of care: you are seen, valued, and not forgotten. To families in need, it’s a lifeline and a reminder that God provides through His people. This ministry builds community, connecting participants and recipients in a shared story of grace. Each grocery bag opens doors to deeper conversations, spiritual support, and lasting transformation. Reflecting Christ’s love, it offers nourishment and kindness without judgment. For donors, it’s faith in action; for recipients, a moment of grace; and for those who serve, a sacred privilege to be part of something holy.
Jit Soon & Seok Imm
Over six months, we’ve had the privilege of walking alongside Val and Adam (not their real names), who welcomed us warmly and shared their journey of caring for their youngest child, Ivan, born with spina bifida—a condition affecting mobility, neurological function, breathing, and feeding.
Val shared, “We waited 15 years for our firstborn. She’s now three and brings us so much joy.” The diagnosis during their second pregnancy was devastating. "The doctors gave us a choice," and "It was the hardest moment”. Val and Adam believed that baby Ivan is “a blessing and they learned to accept the sweet and bitter of life”. Through their sharing the couple inspired us with their courage and unconditional love.

Supporting this family became more than delivering food or supplies—it was a way to share God’s love in a real, practical way. Val expressed, “The monthly gift of food, milk, and diapers shows that we’re not alone. We feel so blessed by a caring community.”
Gift of Love has opened our eyes to the importance of seeing the person behind every story. We’ve witnessed pain, hope, and gratitude as this family faces challenges, uplifted by love and support.
We often reflect on the words of St. Francis: “It is in giving that we receive.” Through our friendship with Val and Adam, we’ve received warmth and invaluable lessons in resilience and humanity. Our calling is to usher in God’s Kingdom by serving those who are marginalised, disadvantaged, or burdened. Gift of Love is more than a programme—it’s an expression of faith. No matter how small our actions may seem, it’s the relationships, understanding, and love we offer that reveal a glimpse of God to others.
