Rev Kenneth Huang is CCMC’s new Pastor-in-Charge (PIC), effective 1 July 2025. Loaves+Fishes has a chat with him to get to know him and his family.
Q: Do introduce yourself and your family.

A: I am married to Jacqueline (it will be for 34 years this August😊), and she will be worshipping with us at CCMC. We have three adult children: our son, Paul, who is worshipping at Kampong Kapor Methodist Church (KKMC); and our twin daughters, Grace and Anne, who are worshipping at Wesley Methodist Church (WMC).
Our son, Paul, is named after Paul the Apostle – my second most favourite person in the Bible after our Lord Jesus Christ. For our twins, Grace and Anne, both their names carry the meaning, amongst others, of “thanksgiving” – Grace in Latin and Anne in Hebrew.
Q: How did you come to receive Jesus as Lord and Saviour?
A: I attended WMC from young with my family, but it was only during a Religious Emphasis Week held at my school, Anglo-Chinese School (ACS), when I was in Secondary 1, that I really responded to the invitation to really invite Jesus to be my Saviour and Lord.
Q: What was your occupation before becoming a minister? When and how did you realise your calling to full-time ministry?
A: I had the privilege of reading Law at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and then practising as a lawyer for about 2 years.
As a teenager, I sensed God calling out to me to enter full-time ministry. I responded by serving actively in my school's Christian Fellowship and later at WMC's Sunday School. At NUS, I joined and served at the Varsity Christian Fellowship (VCF) during my first 3 years at Law School before going on to be elected as the Chairman of the whole of VCF in my fourth year. Recalling, God's calling to full-time ministry became very clear to me in my second year of Law School.
Q: Where did you receive your theological training and what personal lessons (as opposed to knowledge) did you learn from it?
A: I graduated from the Trinity Theological College with a Master of Divinity in 1995. There, I learnt what it means to better see how God works in and through history as well as just how great and faithful He has been and is. I also learnt to appreciate how our Faith is celebrated differently in the various denominations and yet all have the one goal of bringing Glory to God! Finally, I learnt about how the church can and must be the salt and light of the world and help bring the Good News of Jesus to all.
Q: Who are your spiritual/ministry mentors? What valuable lessons did you learn from them?
A: When I was younger, very much my parents in terms of development of Christian values. They modelled unconditional love and putting others first before their own needs.
In terms of Christian ministry, my oldest brother, Rev Melvin Huang (who is now retired), all my faithful Sunday Teachers at WMC, and Ms Grace Kwee, the Christian Ministry Staff at ACS. They modelled commitment and faithfulness.
Now, of course, my wife, Jacqueline – she is truly a Pastor’s wife – one who really understands when I am out of the house ministering to others or attending meetings, and is always there to encourage and support me.
In terms of Christian authors, John Wesley, John White, John Stott, Gene Getz and Wayne Cordeiro to name a few.
Q: Where have you served and in what capacities? What ministries have you been or are you involved in?
A: Upon graduating from TTC in 1995, I was appointed as Assistant Pastor at Barker Road Methodist Church in August that year. In 1998, I was tasked to help set up a new Methodist “Preaching Point” at ACS Independent. Five years later in April 2003, the Preaching Point was constituted as Living Waters Methodist Church, and I had the privilege of being its founding PIC till 2008.
From 2009 to 2011, I served in Faith Methodist Church (FMC) as a Pastor before being appointed the PIC of KKMC from 2012 to 2022. In 2023, after serving for 27 years as a Pastor, I was granted a year-long Sabbatical. In 2024, I was appointed again to FMC as a Pastor till my appointment to CCMC as PIC.
I currently serve as the District Superintendent of the Trinity Annual Conference (TRAC) District 2. I have a number of other responsibilities at TRAC as a member of, amongst others, the Executive Board, the Board of Appointments and the Board of Ministry, as well as at the General Conference as a member of, for example, the Executive Council, the Council on Education and the Council of Nominations. Previously, I had served on the DISCIPLE Agency Executive Committee (the body that promotes the DISCIPLE Bible Study course) for many years as well as the Director, Ministry in Schools where I oversaw for 8 years those serving as Christian Ministry Staff and Chaplains in our Methodist Schools.
Q: What are your priorities and prayers for CCMC?
A: I want to help our church to continue to fulfil our Vision “To Know God Deeply and To Make Him Known Widely” by always growing in Faith, Hope and Love (1 Cor 13:13) – the three things that the Bible says will last forever.

And as we do so, we will help every congregation member in our church to live a life worthy according to the calling we all have received from our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ (Eph 4:1) and serve Him faithfully wherever He has placed us in life.
The result, by God’s grace, will be that others will “see” Jesus in our lives, as we live intentionally as He wants us to as His disciples, and they come also to trust in Him as their Saviour and Lord as the Holy Spirits works in them.
As for my prayer for CCMC, it is taken from Psalm 90:17, which states:
“May the favour of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands.”
This verse teaches us to rely on God empowering us by His grace as we are committed to serving Him in and through CCMC.

Q: You’ve just delivered your first sermon to the CCMC congregation on Sunday 13 July. How did you feel addressing the church body for the first time?
A: I felt very humbled and grateful! I feel this way every time I am given the privilege by God to preach His word for it is a very important responsibility. For it is meant to help our congregation members to be able to live out their discipleship of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ more faithfully each day. I always pray that those who hear the sermon will hear God speaking into their lives!
Q: Feel free to share anything else that you think might be of interest to the CCMC community so that we can get to know you better.
A: I prefer dogs – find them more responsive than say, cats (apologies to cat lovers)!
I am a fan of Star Trek as I like its core values of “curiosity, equality, and the advancement of all life” and where the pursuit of money is no longer a priority.
As for sports, I used to play football and squash in my younger days. Am not so sporty these days. For a football club, I guess it would be Liverpool because somehow I do not really like Man Utd, Man City, etc.

As for a favourite food, it would have to be chicken, whether baked, roasted, steamed or boiled. I have had to resist eating fried chicken for obvious reasons.
Lastly, very importantly, my favourite verse of the Bible is John 14:6 where Jesus said:
“I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the father except through me.”
For when I follow Jesus, I will never get lost, never be lied to, and never be unfulfilled in my life because through Jesus, I will come to know who created me, how I am to live my life and for what purpose! To God be the Glory!
