Meet Tony, our newest Pastoral Team member

CCMC has welcomed a new member to our pastoral team, Mr Tony Low. He will assist in the Outreach & Social Concerns, Sembawang Family Service Centre (SFSC), Missions and Witness & Evangelism ministries. Loaves+Fishes posed the following questions to get to know him better.

How did you come to receive Jesus as Lord and Saviour?

Coming from a non-Christian background, my family and ancestors were Chinese god worshippers and traditionalists.

My faith journey began when my aunt, who was a Christian, shared the gospel with me when I was 16 years old. However, my parents opposed it, as we only followed our family’s traditional beliefs. Going to church on Sundays was difficult for me, as I had to lie to them about my activities, telling them that I needed to do project work for school events, and I would also hide any Christian materials I had.

Over time, I stopped attending church and ran out of ideas to cover up, so I fell back into following my family’s beliefs and traditions. One night, as I lay in bed, I felt a deep urge to call out to Jesus for help. At that moment, I knew I had to return to church despite years of backsliding.

At 27 years old, I made a full commitment to Christ, began attending church regularly, and was baptised after breaking away from my family’s beliefs. Since then, my faith has remained strong, even though my family situation sometimes affects and influences me.

What was your occupation(s) before full-time ministry?

Before answering God’s call to serve in full-time ministry, I worked as a public servant at Civil Service College. Prior to that, I worked in various industries and roles, including as a waiter, barista, sushi chef, cinema crew member, salesman, logistics officer, dental lab technician, and in operations.

I also volunteered in the Alpha course, initially as a helper and later taking on leadership roles, including organising new courses as a facilitator. This involved tasks such as designing, inviting, contacting, organising, and planning the events. It was during this time that I felt a calling to reach out to people and became committed to doing it full-time.

Who are your spiritual/ministry mentors? What valuable lessons did you learn from them?

Having a diverse background of encountering God through attending churches of different denominations—such as Pentecostal, Baptist, Charismatic, and Presbyterian—has broadened my understanding of Christianity.

This experience has deepened my appreciation for promoting unity in diversity, embracing varied teaching styles, worship experiences, and overcoming prejudices. It has opened my heart and mind to celebrate the differences and uniqueness within the body of Christ.

I have also watched various preachers online and read books to deepen my faith. The Bible, as God's Word, has guided me in my spiritual journey. One of the most memorable experiences was attending a Pentecostal church, which shaped my life and knowledge about Christianity. The key takeaway from that church was how to live a holy lifestyle—forsaking the world and living righteously is central to Christian life. This includes demonstrating the fruit of the Spirit in our words, thoughts, and deeds.

Where have you served and in what capacities? Give three principles that you use in your ministry, including examples of their applications.

I had the privilege of serving in various capacities across different areas of church ministry which I have served in the church camp as the admission coordinator, ushering, and the Alpha course as a helper and facilitator.

The three principles that I use in my ministry are:

1. Having an authentic relationship with church members

It is not just about the programmes or events, but also about creating a space where people feel valued and supported.

2. Showing servant leadership by leading to serve others, following the example of Christ. Leadership should always be centred around humility and putting the needs of others first, like setting up for church events or helping with community outreach. This emphasises that the role was to serve others and empower those around them.

3. Pursuing discipleship spiritual growth

This is done by ensuring that church programmes are designed to nurture and equip spiritual growth from within. Programmes have to encourage deep theological reflection while also offering practical applications for daily life, which helps strengthen faith and the understanding on how to live out Christ-like behaviour, whether it is at home, our workplaces, or communities.

What are your priorities and plans for your ministries in CCMC?

Missions: My priority in missions is to expand our church’s global and local outreach, ensuring that our members actively participate in fulfilling the Great Commission. This involves not only supporting missionaries around the world but also equipping our congregation with the tools and opportunities to be involved in short-term mission trips as well as long-term partnerships. My plan is to raise awareness about different missions and create a stronger sense of global responsibility within the church, encouraging our members to consider how they can contribute, whether through prayer, financial support, or direct involvement in mission work.

Outreach & Social Concerns (OSC): Outreach is at the heart of the church’s mission, and I plan to expand and strengthen our outreach programmes to meet both the physical and spiritual needs of our community. This includes increasing our engagement in local service projects and building relationships with those who are marginalised or in need. My priority is to connect with the vulnerable members of our neighbourhood, providing both practical support (e.g., food distribution, social visits, bursary awards) and spiritual care. I aim to involve the congregation in these initiatives to foster a culture of compassion and active service.

Sembawang Family Service Centre (SFSC): One of my key focuses will be continuing and expanding our collaboration with Sembawang Family Service Centre.

Through this partnership, I hope to strengthen our outreach to families in need by offering support in areas such as counseling, social services, and community-building activities. My goal is to enhance our role in the centre, making sure our church plays an active part in providing holistic care and assistance to families facing various challenges.

I also plan to organise joint programmes and events with SFSC to create greater visibility for both the church’s and the centre's services, while fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.

Witness & Evangelism: Witnessing and evangelism are central to the mission of the church, and I believe it is essential to encourage a personal and collective commitment to sharing the gospel. My plan is to equip our congregation with the necessary tools and confidence to evangelise in their daily lives, creating opportunities for both individual and group evangelistic efforts.

This could include outreach events, evangelistic workshops, and training sessions on how to engage in meaningful conversations with non-believers. I also want to see our church become a more visible witness in the community, organising events that not only share the message of Christ but also demonstrate His love through tangible actions.

Do give whatever additional information you wish to share with the CCMC community.

I believe that the strength of our church lies in its people, and I am committed to walking alongside the church as we continue to seek God’s guidance and pursue His purpose for our lives. Whether it’s through small group gatherings, ministry teams, or community outreach, I am excited to see how God will use each of us to make a lasting impact. We have a rich history of caring for one another and serving the wider community, and I look forward to contributing to the continued growth of these initiatives.

Together, I believe we can impact lives and reach new heights as a church family, strengthening our witness for Christ and making a difference in the lives of those around us. Together, we can build a vibrant and loving community that reflects God’s love to the world.
